Arts Week Evanston will hold its Opening Night Event from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10 at Fountain Square (Orrington Avenue at Davis Street). Admission is free and the Evanston Arts Council and Evanston Cultural Arts Division are planning a fun and arty kick-off with puppeteer Michael Montenegro, the Dolphin Show Singers and an original skit by Northwestern University Radio Drama.
Dance Showcase
Dance Showcase, Arts Week Evanston's tribute to dance in all forms, will take the stage at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19, at the Levy Center, 300 Dodge Ave., Evanston. One of Arts Week Evanston's most anticipated events, the Dance Showcase annually features local dance companies coming together to perform for audiences of all ages. Among the companies schedued to perform in 2008 are Elements Contemporary Ballet (see photo at left by Matt Glavin), Equilibrium Dance Company, Evanston Ballet, Evanston Dance Ensemble, Giordano Junior Company, and Urban Beat Dance. Admission to the Dance Showcase is free; donations are welcome.

Arts Week will be your chance to explore, to taste, to take the artists’ dare to stretch your imagination as they tempt you with new sights, sounds, colors and ideas. Be transformed by the arts: attend a music, theater or dance performance ~ there’s everything from classical music to improv; from ballet to hip-hop on the dance stage.
Or participate! Go to a woodcarving class, a painting class, a book discussion group, or a choral rehearsal and join in. For some people the most interesting thing about art is watching it being made. Be amazed at the creativity around you ~ and in yourself…enjoy Arts Week!
