DOWNTOWN PLANNING
Downtown Evanston has a long and rich history. A topic of much discussion in recent years has been the dramatic increase in residential development, retail and entertainment uses, and a substantial upgrading of public infrastructure. Combined, these have produced a vibrant urban center, but many residents are wondering what is the future of downtown?
In response, the City of Evanston has initiated a downtown planning process and invites all residents, business/property owners, merchants, institutions, and other interested parties to participate and give us your ideas for future improvements and development. Duncan Associates, assisted by The Lakota Group, 180 Degrees Design Studio, Goodman Williams Group, and KLOA to have been hired to facilitate the process. The products include a revised downtown plan, a form based code pilot study, zoning recommendations, facilitation of a public participation process, an updated real estate market analysis, and a limited parking utilization study. The project web page is here. This work builds on previous downtown planning efforts, as described here.
