CURRENT DOWNTOWN PLANNING PROJECT

The City of Evanston has initiated a downtown planning process and invites all residents, business/property owners, merchants, institutions, and other interested parties to participate and give us your ideas for future improvements and development. We have hired Duncan Associates, assisted by The Lakota Group, 180 Degrees Design Studio, Goodman Williams Group, and KLOA to facilitate the process.

The products include a revised downtown plan, a form based code pilot study, zoning recommendations, facilitation of a public participation process, an updated real estate market analysis, and a limited parking utilization study. This work builds on previous downtown planning efforts, as described here.

Draft Downtown Plan Public Meeting Schedule

Following several community meetings and a week-long design charrette during the summer of 2007, the consultants presented an overview of the draft plan and recommendations to the Planning & Development Committee and Plan Commission in October of 2007. The plan was referred to the Plan Commission for review. Following a public comment period from November 2007 through January 2008, members engaged in a thorough review and careful deliberation of the draft document. On October 27, 2008, the Plan Commission recommended approval of a revised draft of the downtown plan to the Planning & Development Committee of City Council. The revised plan is available for downloading in the column to the right. Agendas and transcripts from past meetings are available below. Hardcopies are available for viewing at the libraries and the Civic Center.
